25 NOV 2018
Yesterday's penultimate race of the 2018 season had Supercar fans on the edge of their seats; and everyone knew they would be in for one hell of a finale today. The stunning backdrop of Newcastle was all set for the championship to be decided.
Qualifying in 8th, Tim made it into the final shootout for 2018, and backed it up with the same result of 8th, which is where he would start the concluding 250km battle. The race was underway, and on lap 21, Whincup and Coulthard made contact, resulting in Fabian in a tyre bundle and bringing out the safety car. Many drivers took this opportunity to pit, yet when Slade finished his stop Michael Caruso was blocking pit lane, forcing him to queue behind losing valuable time.
The loss in time saw Tim re-join the race in 19th. From here the team knew they would need to fight hard to gain back the positions lost. The battle was tough, and Tim crossed the line for the final time in the 2018 season in 15th. Tim finished the 2018 Supercar Championship in 11th, and he and team-mate Nick Percat secured 6th in the teams' championship.
Scott McLaughlin was declared the 2018 Supercars Champion; his first ever championship title.
THE WORD FROM TIM
"It was awesome to make the final shootout of the year, the crowds here are just awesome and you can hear the people cheering you on the whole way around the track. It's a great place to end the 2018 season."
"It was really frustrating to get held up in pit lane on our first stop. With other cars stacking in front of us, they haven't given us any room to get by and get on with our race. It's another thing that's happened to us that is out of our control. It's disappointing because everyone on the team works so hard and all you want to do is get a good result. We were looking forward to finishing the season strong and we walk away knowing we have some unfinished business."
"The guys and girls have done a great job this season, and the support from Freightliner/Alliance Truck Parts and all our valued partners has been awesome. We can't thank everyone enough for their support in 2018 and we look forward to a strong season in 2019."
